Baylor Drive is an alternative country band hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina. Spotlighting the
music of lead singer and principle songwriter Brandon Thompson, the members of Baylor Drive synthesize
a wide range of influences to form a unique brand of subtly intense music. When listening to the band,
you may be reminded of artists ranging from Ryan Adams to Pink Floyd; from Counting Crows to the Jayhawks.
The band that would become Baylor Drive formed in the living room of lead vocalist and primary songwriter
Brandon Thompson in 2009. Brandon enlisted the aid of friends Grey Banner (bass) and Kim Taylor (background
vocals) to help bring his musical vision to life. After only two practices, the band took the stage for the
first time. The overwhelmingly positive reaction of the crowd was all the convincing the nascent band needed:
this wasn’t going to be a one-time gig. Soon after, guitarist Josh Adams was added, bringing his own flare and
dynamic to the songs. After an exhaustive search, lead guitarist Curt Busse and drummer Tony Robinson were
invited to join the band in 2010.
Beginning with lyrics and an acoustic guitar, each song is built from the ground up with a “less is more”
attitude with an intense focus on arrangement and melody. Twin guitars interplay to produce a sound that is
both expansive and intimate, with a strong emphasis on rhythm and color being prized over technical theatrics.
The rhythm section creates the foundation for each song, maintaining a steady groove to keep the audience’s toes
tapping. Thompson’s vocals are immediate and upfront, and when coupled with the angelic female melodies of
background vocalist, Kim Taylor, produce a haunting and tuneful listening experience.
Focusing on raw, emotional subject matter and music that the everyday person can identify with and enjoy,
Baylor Drive is focused on delivering their unique brand of Alt Country/Indie Rock to stages (big and small)
all throughout the Carolinas.
